Well, for me Entourage won't even add the new entry to the group, even without including a check, as long as the associated email address is already there for any of the members of the group. And if they do get added, all you need to do is open the group, make some minor change, then save it again. Entourage will automatically remove any duplicates, based on duplicate email addresses, not the full text of the group entry.
