Are there any plans to speed up searching in Entourage X? Right now it take hours to search my mail database (little over 30,000 records). With Eudora or Notes it only takes seconds to do a full text search.
Thanks,
Allan Marcus
Entourage X is already many times faster than E2001. Several questions arise:
- What kind of search are you doing? A search on message body of all messages? Why not limit the search by folder, sender, date, or some other field?
- Searches on subject are extremely fast. Consider editing the subject fields of messages that don’t have meaningful subjects.
- What kind of hardware are you using? CPU MHz? Memory? Free disk space? All these things drastically affect speed.
I tend to agree that Entourage’s search of the message body is unfortunately slow. The developers have indicated that support for Unicode in the database has imposed certain restrictions that slow things down.
My solution has been to archive my messages, all but the last two weeks’ worth, in FileMaker Pro, which indexes text fields. I use eMessage Archiver; you could also use the Crevier archive package. Or archive with Barry Wainright’s scripts to mbx files; then, you could use Eudora to search them (I believe).
