It's certainly a tangled web that I've woven, Paul. One of the disadvantages
of working from home (on a minority OS, to boot) is that there's no-one
around to glance over my shoulder, gasp in horror at my Heath-Robinsonesque
re-inventions of the wheel, and quietly put me on the right track. Thank
heavens for lists. But before I get all maudlin about how great it is to
have the help and support of all you wonderful guys out there...

My two ISPs are Demon and ntl. Demon was the first (and for some years the
only) ISP I used. With ntl, I got a dialup account thrown in as part of the
deal when I signed up for their phone and cable TV package. As this offered
free dialup access where Demon did not, I started collecting my Demon mail
through the ntl account using Demon's pop3 server. I still collect all my
mail through ntl, now using a cable modem.

The Demon address is the kind where any eligible characters can go before
the '@' symbol, with the format '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'. I have two
Entourage accounts set up to use this address, one as 'ndt@...' and one as
'ICT@...'. Both accounts share the same password and connection details
Entourage always picks the 'ndt' account for replies, regardless of which
address is on the incoming message.

The ntl account came with 5 email addresses, two of which I use in Entourage
accounts. The primary address is [EMAIL PROTECTED], but in a few very
specific contexts I use [EMAIL PROTECTED] Again, these accounts share
password and connection details. When I reply to messages addressed to
[EMAIL PROTECTED], Entourage always puts the 'pod' address in the from field.

Then came iTools. I moved all my mailing list subscriptions to the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] address, and for reasons lost in the mists of time, activated
the 'email forwarding' feature. At first, I sent mac.com mail to the ntl
account, but ntlworld.com and mac.com had a serious falling out and my
mac.com mail stopped getting through, I redirected it to the Demon account,
where it has stayed ever since. As a result, the route it travels to get to
my mailbox is a trifle tortuous, being forwarded to Demon and then passed on
to ntl. Entourage puts the 'ndt@...' Demon account in the from field when I
reply to mac.com messages, but I suppose it can be forgiven for dropping the
ball on this last one.

It would be great to get this mess sorted out, so thanks for taking the time
to look at it.

(You'll have noticed that this doesn't add up to the 9 accounts mentioned in
my original post. The rest are three 'legacy accounts' configured for
connecting directly to Demon, via dialup - almost never used now that ntl's
cable service is reasonably solid - and one dummy account.)

Cheers

Nick
