I roughly followed it, but I didn't remember it discussing exactly this

Right; in fact, I mentioned a while back that I often use the above "rules"
to allow me to place two signatures in the same message (one being some
frequently-used text). I think I tuned out the discussion after that and
didn't see the resolution that it's erratic and needs to be fixed. Thanks.
