Ok, this is how I did this, so you can duplicate it yourself. I went into
entourage and set it to work offline, and then turned off all schedules.

Open terminal, and and type:

$ top

(btw, the $ is the comand prompt, don't type it) Then get entourage's PID
number on the far left, if you have no other apps open you'll probably see
two, just grab the one with the largest amount of memory.

Then, in another terminal window (or quit top) type:

$ sudo fs_usage (enter entourage's PID here without parentheses)

Watch entourage roll like a pig in sh** requesting localtime calls, seeks
and reads and all sorts of things. Now, do the exact same thing with apple's
mail or eudora or almost any other app that isn't crappy shareware and
notice the difference.

Ie, I dropped explorer. Finally had to wipe it from my system. No ill will
towards ms for it, I simply couldn't count on it as it crashed too often for
it to be reliable. I have no ill will because it was =free=. Actually there
is some ill-will, but that is because every time I did launch ms it would
decide to make it my default browser, but I digress...

I actually like office, I have bought 3 copies of MS office which have cost
me $1500. At $500, this piece of software costs almost as much as photoshop.
I have none of these issues (I haven't gone into the dbase issues I've had,
all sorts of other things) with other apps in that class.

There is a lot of work that needs to be done on that program, and I know I
sure as hell am not going to spend another $1500 this year for a paid update
to fix them all, or even $500 if they offer upgrades. But that's just me, I
highly doubt I'm the only one though if my colleagues or others I encounter
are in not just blowing smoke.
