Joshua and Peter, have you tried disabling the Classic environment?  A
recent poster on the newsgroup had a similar problem with CPU usage and
disabling Classic helped.

Did you try a Typical Rebuild of your database?  Start Entourage holding
down the Option key, then choose to do a Typical Rebuild.

If you have them, have you tried disabling QuickKeys/Grammarian/TypeIt4Me?
What about FaxSTF? Does quitting that make a difference if you have it
running?
