I use Safari most of the time, but use IE when Safari can't hack it. I have
around 250 cookies in IE. I do not experience this problem of loss of
preferences, cookies, or autofill data.

I guess I'm just lucky.

As for whether it depends on a "clean" system...I'm the opposite of John
Welch in that regard. I run practically every add-on known to man.

I seem to recall that I once had a problem like this (losing autofill info)
and that it was related to Fruit Menu (which I discontinued using quite some
time ago). My memory may be inaccurate; it might have been some other
add-on. But, I'd suggest playing with IE and Entourage with all add-ons
disabled (use a freshly minted OS identity), and seeing if the problem
persists. My guess is that it won't; it will go away. I think something
beside those two programs is involved here.
