It's because you have included at least one character that cannot be found in the MacRoman (Western European) character format set. Normal accents as found in French, Flemish and German are OK and don't require other character sets. Most likely you are _quoting_ something in a reply that your correspondent typed in an Asian or East European font. Since Entourage can read anything, there was nothing special to do when reading it. But now that you're replying, those characters are now in your message - plus you have your own Western European character set. In order to accommodate two character sets at once, the message would need to be sent in Unicode. > > What to do ? Unless the received message had _only_ the Asian or East European character set, the sender must have Unicode capabilities too. So just click OK to Unicode. (If you in fact speak and write in any of these languages, you would have to confine yourself to replying in the same language, with no Western European, including your usual signature, if you wanted to avoid Unicode.) The only other possibility is that you have included "exotic" characters from exotic fonts like Wingdings or Dingbats in your messages. Then your alternative - if you don't want to send in Unicode - is to abstain from doing things like that. Recipients who have a modern Microsoft email client - OE 5 Mac, Entourage, OE 5 or later Windows, Outlook 97 or later - will all be able to read Unicode. Same with Apple Mail and some others (I'm not sure about Eudora - I don't think so). Others won't The worst that can happen is that they won't see the exotic characters correctly, but will still be able to read your normal text. So, all in all, I'd say just go ahead and click OK to Unicode. -- Paul Berkowitz MVP Entourage Entourage FAQ Page: http://www.entourage.mvps.org/toc.html PLEASE always state which version of Entourage you are using - 2001 or X.
