Jack, This is probably because the MS Database Daemon is still running. There is a script online that will force it to quit.
You can get it here: http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq/daemon.html Or, YOU MIGHT want to just try restarting your computer. Then the first thing you do it Launch Entourage with Option down. This should fix it.
