I'm experiencing what seems like Entourage activity during sleep mode.

When I close the lid of 17" PowerBook, then later awaken it from sleep mode,
there is often an error dialog box from Internet Connect already open and
waiting for me that indicates Internet Connect tried to connect and wasn't
able to. The connection attempt would have been when the PB was asleep.
Otherwise, there would be not reason for a failed connection attempt.

The only app I can think of that initiates a regular connection to the
Internet is Entourage. Maybe the OS tries to connect to the Apple time
server, but I didn't think it does so as frequently as these error messages
appear (multiple times a day).

Back in Feb and March, there were some postings about a similar problem with
notifications. The originator said he closed his laptop lid, but still
received notifications. One reply said that's not technically possible, that
the laptop must only be in display sleep, not CPU sleep, and to check energy
saver options. But according to my understanding, that explanation isn't
possible because closing the lid means only one thing: full sleep, not
display sleep since closing the lid presumes the laptop is about to be moved
and the HD needs to be spun down.

I don't know how an app could be running during sleep. Seems technically
impossible to me. And maybe the problem is that there's something wanky
about OS 10.2.6 and/or my laptop that results in the computer appearing to
enter sleep mode, but actually not.

But is there any new perspective on Entourage X and sleep over the past few
months? Is this a potential Entourage issue, or can it only be an Apple
issue?

Are some application functions still permitted during sleep mode. After all,
looking to the metaphor of sleep, the brain and body don't cease to function
completely. If they did, the closing the lid would be called death mode, and
opening the lid again would be called resurrection. :-)

Thanks,
Doug
