3) Not until Apple publicly documents an Application Programming Interface
(API) for AddressBook.app.

Apple has very nicely documented exactly how to put and get info form the Addressbook database right here (available since July last year?)

http://developer.apple.com/ue/addressbook/

So it is there for those who choose to use it.

SBook+ has very fast synch to Addressbook, based on this API one imagines

Going the other way (into MS's exchange product) AddressBook.app can/will do exchange synching, so that is one tie into Microsoft server products that will be available (slow though, it uses http (ie. pretends to be a user on the web interface to exchange i think) not any native access to exchange: perhaps _that_ interface is not public? (i don't know).
