Send, yes. Receive (and actually respond), no. And "forces" is too strong a
word.

There are both "Read" receipts and "Delivery" receipts. Read receipts are
supported on the client software (i.e. Microsoft Outlook) and are usually an
optional feature (they can be turned off). They are supposed to be sent when
the recipient displays the message in question. Delivery receipts are
supported on the server software (i.e. Microsoft Exchange) and are also
optional. The problem with return receipts is that, if the recipient's
software (client or server) doesn't support them or, they have been
disabled, they become useless for that recipient. The fact that you can't
count on them to be available for any recipient, pretty much makes the
feature useless.

You can have Entourage send the return receipt requests, but it won't act on
requests it receives from others. To send return receipts, you need to add a
custom header to the "Options" tab of the account setup. For "Read" receipts
you would:

* Go to Tools -> Accounts.
* Under the Mail tab, edit the mail account you want to send from.
* Click the Options tab.
* Under "Additional Headers", add in a new header:
Disposition-Notification-To
* Under Value, type your e-mail address.

For "Delivery" receipts you would:

* Go to Tools -> Accounts.
* Under the Mail tab, edit the mail account you want to send from.
* Click the Options tab.
* Under "Additional Headers", add in a new header: Return-Receipt-To
* Under Value, type your e-mail address.
