Can't send mail

Title: Can't send mail

I have today started to receive the following dialog box whenever I try to send mail.
“Mail could not be sent using the account “ John’s Email Account”.
A communication error has occurred.
Error –3260

Receiving mail is fine.
Any clues please. A reboot often fixes the problem for one and one only send.
