As I happened to be at Starbucks, I was curious what would happen if I pull out my Powerbook 17" . This was in Midtown Manhattan.
I saw 2 Networks -- T-Mobile and Verizon Wi-Fi When I launched IE, instead of my Home Page, Google.com, I got T-Mobile and Verizon Wi-Fi Log In pages(User ID + Password) whenever I switched between these 2 Networks. Obviously, since I was not a Customer of either one of these ISP's, I wasn't able to get on. When I got home, I was on my own Airport Extreme's Network, I was online FINE, but when I launched IE, it still had Verizon Wi-Fi Log In pages(User ID + Password instead of my Google.com Home page. After playing for a while with my Preferences, Deleting Cache, and Restarting, I eventually got my Google.com Home page back. Safari was uneffected since I never ran it at Starbucks! It's sad to see such turf war between ISP's. Couldn't they just welcome each other's customers?! So, it's going to be a while before ANYWHERE ANYTIME WIRELESS, ha? So, unless I am with T-Mobile, anywhere in Starbucks in the US, I can't get online, unless I pay a per use fee, right? What do Americans with laptops do when they travel abroad, wirelessly or with dialup? Arkady http://www.arkady.com -- To unsubscribe: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> archives: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.letterrip.com/> old-archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.boingo.com/>
