I wonder if this is "Normal" ...

I was at a meeting today. The person has Optonline.net Cable Modem > Linksys
Router (BEFSR81) > Ethernet into Windows Computer.

I plugged in my Airport Extreme into Linksys and I was online FINE with my
Powerbook 17", i.e. IE was browsing FINE, and Entourage Received email FINE.
So, I decided to Reply to one of the Messages that came in. I got this
Error --
-------------------------
A message in your Outbox could not be sent using account "ARKADY1" The
server did not recognize the recipients or the server refuses to allow you
to send mail.

5.7.1 Relaying not allowed: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
-------------------------
I tried Built In Ethernet with my regular setting -- smtp-server.nyc.rr.com
and it didn't work. When I replaced my smtp-server.nyc.rr.com with
mail.optonline.net my Replies were Sent OK!!! Whether it's my .mac account,
or my RoadRunner account, I use smtp-server.nyc.rr.com when I am at home.
When I was at Apple Store, I never had to change smtp-server.nyc.rr.com My
Entourage, and IE SIMPLY WORKED!

So, I guess, in the future, I'll have to know their SMTP Server, in order to
Send mail. I'll probably need to Create another Account, which would be
Identical to my My Main Account, but with THEIR SMTP SERVER, instead of my
RoadRunner's smtp-server.nyc.rr.com Or would have to use my .Mac Web Based
Email, with BCC, or CC to myself, so that I get a Copy of the message into
my Entourage. I guess, it's the ISP's way of preventin non-customers from
using their pipeline?!

Since Apple Store uses .Mac(right?) I didn't have a problem, and I wrongly
assumed that I won't anywhere else.

Any and all education on this topic would be greatly appreciated!

TIA,
