Should you do a rebuild (perhaps only a complex, complete one), the items 
stored on the server will come back in as new mail.  So, the moral is, 
rebuild after emptying the server or be prepared for all or many items to 
reappear.  I think this is because the (complex?) rebuild establishes new 
tags of some sort on mail already received, and thus it no longer looks the 
same to the server/your computer at the next connection post rebuild.
