I recently had to re-install everything on my laptop (PBG4, OS 9.2.2) and it all seems to be working well except for this odd new quirk in Entourage. Whenever I initiate a new email, my entire system locks up for twenty-one seconds. This also occurs when I try to add a recipient to an open/pending email by clicking on the To: / CC: area. Twenty-one seconds. This phenomenon does not happen when I reply to an existing email.  

I’ve been guessing it has something to do with Entourage accessing my Contacts database (about 2,500 entries) but there is no delay when I use the Command-2 shortcut to browse my contacts, no delay in scrolling or sorting, no delay in double-clicking a selected item.

I have rebuilt the database using both options available on the Option-Launch menu. I have also downloaded and installed the Office 2001 Combo Update 9.0.4 and restarted the machine. No changes.

Any suggestions? Twenty-one seconds doesn’t sound like much...until you are waiting for them to pass. Help!
