Message disappears into dock

Title: Message disappears into dock

Using Ent X and Mac 10.3.2

In my Inbox, I double click on a new message. It opens for an instant and immediately disappears, sliding into the dock as is I had clicked command M. This happens much, but not all of the time. What's going on?
