Go to Tools -> Accounts, open your Exchange account, click the "Directory" tab, click the "Advanced Options" button, and toggle the "This server requires me to log on" button. Click OK. Does that help? Some users have found that if authentication information is sent to a server that doesn't require it, an error can result.
I don't know if this works since I don't use Directory Services, but perhaps changing the default account in Tools -> Accounts would work? Of course, since Exchange accounts are supposed to use their own directory information, that might not work.
