POP servers have something called a POPper. There are good and bad POPpers.
I used to have a POP rule that said:

If <Specific Header> <Status> <Contains> <R>

Then <Change Status> to <Read>

That would mark messages as read on a second computer with one of my
accounts, but never worked with the other. That's because the POPper on the
good account's server had software that gave the messages an "R" (for
"Read") Status header after downloading to the first computer , but the
second account's ISP had no such software setting, so it always got marked
as unread when downloading to the second computer. (I left messages on the
server form both locations.) I suspect it's an issue like that. Not to do
with the Entourage database but with the ISP's software,

PLEASE always state which version of Microsoft Office you are using -
**2004**, X or 2001. It's often impossible to answer your questions
otherwise.
