I'm coming in late on this discussion.but I'm going to propose that his
dial-up provider (Copper.net) recently added port 25 blocking and Qwest
still hasn't done so.

Some ISPs block the TCP port used by email clients to send messages to mail
servers. This is so that their users must use the ISP's SMTP servers to send
mail. This helps to prevent worm/trojan/zombied machines from sending
infected/spam messages directly. It has the unfortunate side-effect that
users of the ISP cannot send mail through SMTP servers that don't belong to
the ISP.

The ideal work around would be if Richard's drshane.com hosting company
would listen for SMTP communication on an alternate port other than 25 (587
is a standard...I use 2025 on the server I run).
