I'll give you an example of what I've done. It involves no scripts, only a
Schedule and Rule. Therefore, it's relatively simple, and it may give you
some ideas.
* Create a new Outgoing Rule. Set it to affect only mail *sent* from my
local Entourage Exchange account. The rule should process each message sent,
and save a copy in the local ("on my computer") "Sent Items" folder. By
default an Exchange account in Entourage 10.1.4 or later will already save a
sent message in the server-side "Sent Items" folder.
* Create a new Schedule. Have it run on a periodic schedule, like every day
or every few hours. Have it delete messages from the server-side "Sent
Items" folder when they are older than x days; I have mine set to delete
messages older than 90 days.
What does this give me? I get:
1. A local copy of every message I sent through my Exchange account, from
Entourage. (Messages sent from Outlook or OWA don't count, alas.) This local
archive is available only through Entourage, because it resides in the
Entourage database.
2. A trimmed-down "Sent Items" folder in my Exchange mailbox/account, which
gives me only my most recent sent messages. This reduces my quota usage on
the Exchange server.
You could do something very similar for your Exchange inbox, except that you
wouldn't use an outgoing mail rule. You'd need a catch-all incoming rule,
carefully created so that it doesn't block your other rules and the Junk
Mail Filter from operating.
