The synchronization that Entourage performs is more or less a cached mode --
it's synchronizing data from your local Entourage database up to your
Exchange mailbox. This is one reason why Entourage has an offline mode for
Exchange accounts (and others as well). As far as I know, there is no way to
operate in a non-cached mode, or even prevent people from using the local
database for storage (some organizations may want that).

If you're having constant synchronization, there could be a lot of data
changing on either side (local database or Exchange mailbox) between
sessions, the client may not have fully synchronized with the Exchange
mailbox yet (it takes me about a day to get full sync on my entire account,
which is over 100 MB), or you could have some other circumstances causing
excessive sync times.

One thing I've noticed in supporting people on Exchange with Entourage is
that if you have events in your calendar that repeat into infinity, your
sync times will tend to be longer over time. This often happens, in my
experience, when people put in calendar events to block off their calendars
-- perhaps as all-day, every day repeating events with Exchange "busy"
status. I'd recommend putting in a finite repeat on such events -- you can
still set them up, but make them repeat for six months (or some amount of
time, not indefinitely). Then, set up another event to repeat when the first
one ends, six months into the future, and for another six months.

The long sync times may be exacerbated by also using HotSync with a Palm.
I've also seen HotSync times increase when events, as described above, were
in the Entourage/Exchange calendar.

Are the people with long sync times getting duplicate events in their
calendars? Do they use another client other than Entourage with their
accounts -- Outlook Web Access, Outlook 2001, Outlook/Windows?
