I can confirm this behavior as well. The same behavior is seen with the
change of file type to "TEXT".

I thought that, perhaps, the file has to actually be created without a file
extension. But that doesn't seem to be the sole factor. I removed the file
extension from a drag-created file and then duplicated it in the Finder.
This action creates a file with the name "original_filename copy". Since it
has no filename at the time of file creation, my little theory would predict
that it would be indexed, but it is not.
