Yes, the type of encoding doesn't seem to make any difference. Regarding zipping, I have two issues:
First my company's firewall prevents the reception of zipped attachments, ostensibly as a protection against viruses, etc. Since the majority of mail I send with attachments is within the company, that workaround is not an option for me. Second, unfortunately it's easier easier just to send messages with attachments with Apple's mail program rather than to zip every file I send. This is particularly true when I'm just forwarding a message with a file attached, as opposed to creating a new message with an attachment. In other words, frequently I will be sent a message with an attachment which I simply want to forward to someone else without any modification. In order to zip those I would have to un-attach, zip, and re-attach. While I am sure some of our scripting gurus could come up with a way to do this, I don't think it's worth the hassle. I was hoping that the Tiger 10.4.2 update with somehow correct this, but that wasn't the case. I guess it will have to be something fixed by Microsoft. Since those of us who seem to be having this problem seem to be in a distinct minority I'm pondering how long I can hold my breath.
