Can't help much with the first problem, but yes, you can hook Entourage into
this. You've got all the information you need already (POP and SMTP
servers), just enter the details in to Entourage and go.

If the sysadmin's a Unix geek, tell him that your Mac is really a BSD
machine underneath (close enough), that might make him feel better.
(Although I honestly have to wonder about his skill level if he thinks that
a Mac can't interoperate with global Internet standards for email.)
