I am about to Install Office 2004, Student And Teacher Edition. So I thought
I'd ask a few Q's to be on a safe side... TIA for any and all help!

MY PRESENT SET UP IS:

Powerbook 17, 1.76 MHz, Mac OS 10.4.2(all latest updates), Office X,
Entourage(10.1.4 - 030702)/email only, i.e. I don't Sync it with my Tungsten
T3 Palm PDA (it works fine with my Palm Desktop...).

I don't use use Notifications, and all my Accounts are POP...

I have 2 Users on my PB17 -- Main and Test User that I use for
Troubleshooting rarely... I almost NEVER use Classic.

I run SuperDuper! http://www.shirt-pocket.com/ to Clone my entire PB17 every
night to an External FW HD, alternating between Partition A and B, so I am
always backed up... As part of Cloning, my Permissions are Repaired
Nightly...

MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS A SMOOTH TRANSITION OF ALL MY ENTOURAGE DATA...

€ My Database is 1.68GB, which has 36,762 messages as of now...
€ I only have two Identities -- Main and Test(almost never use it)...
€ All my Accounts are set to Leave Messages on the Server, and Delete them
from the Server when they are Deleted on my Powerbook.

My "plan" is to "rehearse" this Upgrade on one of my Clone Partitions...

I look at these2 very helpful pages - BRAVO on that entire site!!!

    http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq/2004.html#new1

And at Tips on a good install
    http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/index.html#Tips-47857

These sound like common sense:

    * Clean up your database before importing.
    * Export your contacts.
    * Make a backup of your database.
    * Empty your Deleted Mail

Under "Update and Install Questions"

ITEM #1 - I don't think I'll have the "daemon issue", since I will,
hopefully, be using only Office 2004, and I don't use use Notifications...

ITEM #2 - is a little UNCLEAR as it relates to MY CASE... I very rarely
check my email anywhere other than on my Powerbook 17...

I'd like to leave whatever email I have left "as is" at my .Mac, and other
Servers, and end up having it downloaded AGAIN onto my PB17, after I launch
Entourage 2004 with my Entourage Main Identity Imported...

Will Entourage 2004 be smart enough to know that my Main Identity, which
hopefully got Imported OK, already has those messages, or will I end up with
a bunch of DUPLICATES, as described in ITEM #2

>> 2) I just upgraded to Office 2004 and I had a bit of a problem with
>> Entourage.
>> I have about 20 email accounts that all get a tremendous amount of mail. I
>> have each account set up to leave the mail of the server for 14 days, this
>> way
>> I can check my mail when I am out of town and still get the mail on my main
>> computer at home. So I perform the upgrade and then check my mail. Much to
>> surprise my computer was flooded with thousands of redundant messages that I
>> had already previously retrieved.
>
> Even though you had downloaded the emails on another computer, you had

>
> Tip: "Get all messages left on server" one final time on Office X, before

If the above scenario applies in my case, I guess I could either DELETE all
messages on my .Mac, or Move them to a FOLDER (Old Mail), so that Entourage
2004 "doesn't see them", and thus no DUPLICATE DOWNLOAD?!

AND HERE ARE A SOME OTHER Q'S...

Q 1. Do I need to do any or all of this? --

Upgrade my Office X to the latest version, i.e. higher than 10.1.4,
then Repair Permissions, Restart, Rebuild Database... If yes to any
or all of these, in which order?

Q 2. Do I simply run Office 2004 Installer without doing anything in Q 1, or
some things in Q 1?

Q 3. Is it a good idea to unplug my External FW HD?

HERE ARE THE Q'S I HAVE AFTER READING "GETTING STARTED BOOKLET"...
[btw, it looks like it's been used, but the CD itself looks new, and this is
a brand new item, not second hand:)...]

Although in the "Before You Begin" section on Page 1 a Drag-And-Drop
Installation Method is mentioned, it seems like Office Set Up Assistant(page
4) is the PREFERRED way to install, right?

Step 3 on Page 6 -- that's where I choose to Import my Entourage X Main
Identity, right?!

Step 4: Product Key is CONFUSING...

I have 3 Product Keys on the back of the CD case.. Which one do I use? In
which order etc... Office has 4 Applications, but only 3 3 Product Keys...

Step 5 (Page 7) - Provided the Installation and the Import of my Entourage X
Main Identity etc. all went well, I will see the Congratulations Screen.

At that point: Should I do any of these steps:

         Log Out, Repair Permission, Restart?

Page 8 - Set up Entourage 2004 -- do I need to use Entourage's Set Up
Assistant, if my Main Identity has already been Imported in Step 3? I.e.
What I find CONFUSING is the wording in this booklet:

Step 3 on Page 6 mentions "Importing Identities", while on Page 9, at
the bottom, in the screen shot of Entourage Set Up Assistant, under "What do
you want to Import", the 2nd Choice is "Information from Microsoft Entourage
X", plus the other choices there are TOO GENERAL: PIM, email program, and
the last choice is EVEN MORE GENERAL...

i.e. Should I select the 2nd Choice -

        "Information from Microsoft Entourage X"

in Entourage's Set Up Assistant, or should I leave the top Choice - "I want
to start using Entourage without Importing anything" as is, and then Quit
Entourage's Set Up Assistant on the assumption that my Entourage X Main
Identity got imported, as per Step 3 on Page 6, and thus is ready to go?!

And then what do I do, click on Entourage Application Icon to Launch it, and
will I see all my Entourage X Main Identity already imported, or will I see
Entourage's Set Up Assistant AGAIN:)?!

And FINALLY, when should I do the SP2 Upgrade?

After I run Entourage 2004 for a few days, or BEFORE I even run it?

If BEFORE, when exactly, in which order, any pitfalls to look out for?

Sorry for being so €CAUTIOUS€, it's just that I depend on my email for work,
and, it's also a huge part of my trying to help a friend find a Bone
Marrow/Stem Cells Donor (see the link below)

IDEALLY, I wish there was someone on this list who could "hold my hand"
while I do this Install, so that it all goes smoothly... I am hardly a
newbie, but this Install is making me nervous:)

If you are willing to help, please write me off list.

TIA for any and all help!!!!
