After reading the problems that people report after each update, I'm
inclined to wonder why, if it ain't broke for me, I would want to "fix" it.
I've lost enough databases in previous versions that now that I have
something that's solid for my needs... I'm loathe to mess with it.

My two cents:  I have not regretted staying current,  at least not in current memory.  I always accept updates as soon as they are offered.  (Exception, on the other side:  I stayed away tfrom the recent very major Windows Service Pack until enough evidence accumulated it was OK.)  In the case of WindowShade, I just forgot to check and the vendor didn't remind me that a new version was ready.

I'm a software professional, and I have some idea about how product cycles and modern software development tools work; that gives me confidence that updates will be at least innocuous and quite possibly an improvement.    One might worry about major changes to products largely composed of very old code, but I don't think that is the case here.

I've never had a problem with the Entourage database, but I can sympathize with the frustration of those who have had such problems.    Thanks for reminding me -- I need to make a backup.

Anyway, my question to henryn stands: Did his problem occur only when waking
from sleep?

First, since there is potential confusion, by "sleep" I mean the state entered via the Apple menu "Sleep" command.  I guess some people call this "deep sleep".

In all but one instance, the problem occurred upon wake-up from sleep.   Generally, I sleep my machine late in the evening and wake it up again early each morning.  Only occasionally during the day when I'm going to be away for more than an hour or two.  Probably a superstition, but it seemed that the longer the period of sleep, the more likely the issue.

That once exception was when I started loading a huge image into Photoshop and decided to get some message editing  done during the load.  I started dragging the message window to a more convenient position.  The motion wasn't smooth, and after an inch or two of movement, the message window simply disappeared.  I checked; the message was being sent from the Outbox as I watched.

Thanks,

Henry
