I'm using Apple's Postfix/Cyrus combo, so you may need to take my advice
with an extra grain of salt.

Livesync, as I understand it, keeps a channel open between the server and
the client, with the server notifying the server when a new message is put
in a folder.

So, if you then turned off livesync may need to increase the frequency of
the send & receive schedule to compensate. Some people get extreme with this
(IMO) and set it to every minute.

No, it no longer applies, b/c the message is no longer moved anywhere, it is
only flagged. This likely one of the reasons why it helps -- Entourage loses
track of the message somehow when moving it.

Instead the account settings under the Advanced tab determine when the
flagged messages are purged from the folders.

You may also want to check under Preferences: Mail & News Preferences: Read.
There's a setting there that determines whether deleted messages are visible
or not.
