Comparing Office v.X to Tiger and v.X to v2004, I would sooner spend
the money upgrading Entourage/Office.
More directly, no, v.X should not hold you back from Tiger. Just add
the Microsoft User Data folder to the Privacy tab in the Spotlight
Preference pain.
And when you do upgrade, I would recommend an Archive & Install &
preserve users/network settings, not a real upgrade
