Title: Re: Managing email views using "Arrange by" feature
Stan,
When you talk about all the sender names “clamshelled open”, I wonder if you mean you are selecting “View/Arrange By/From” (rather than “View/Arrange By/Sent”)?

Try this. You can make a “custom arrangement” in Entourage which may accomplish what you want:

  1. With your Inbox “in front”, select the View/Arrange By/Edit Custom Arrangements command.
  2. Click the “New” button to create a new custom arrangement.
  3. Edit the arrangement settings as follows:
    • Give your custom arrangement a meaningful name like “Sort By Sender – Collapsed”.
    • Group items by “From”
    • Sort groups by “From” with “A on top”
    • Sort items within groups by “Received” with “Newest on top”
    • Default display of groups “Collapsed”.
  4. Click OK to save your new custom group.
  5. Again bring your Inbox to the front, and select View/Arrange By/[your new custom arrangement] (which should appear near the top of the list).

That’s it! You should see all the e-mail in the Inbox arranged by sender name, with all the messages from each sender “collapsed”.

Hope This Helps!

That makes it hard to simply scroll down and pick out the name I want to look at.

I’d like to set the default so that when I “arrange by sent” the senders’ names are “closed” ~ that is, only the names show, not the emails. (Does that make sense?)

Now, I’m aware that I could use the search box to search for a specific sender, but I like being able to see the entire list of sender names. I’d just prefer the default view to be “names closed” for lack of a better way of describing it.

Is there a script perhaps that will do this? I’ve searched around but found nothing. Perhaps I’m not familiar enough with the terminology to search effectively. (For example, what are those little open-and-close arrows to the left of the names called?)

Thanks for any help!
