This is a long tale so bear with me.

I keep a WEBDAV calendar for our church. The calendar is published with
iCal. I keep the events master calendar in Entourage because some of the
events are sent to me with Outlook. It just makes it easier. When new events
are added, I use Entourage Synch Services to send the events to iCal and
then Refresh the WEBDAV calendar.

I have embarked on a project to add birthdays to the calendar. Similarly, I
use Synch Services to send the contacts in Entourage to the Apple Address
Book. I have turned on the Birthday calendar in iCal which automatically
adds the Birthdays from Address Book to the iCal calendar and they then are
added to the WEBDAV server on a subsequent Refresh. This works well.

I was initially adding adults, but started adding the Children recently. To
do this, I duplicate one of the parents Contacts and edit the First Name and
birthday fields and also remove other info like Anniversary, Spouse Name,
etc. To do it quickly, I open a Duplicated Contact for someone - mother or
father - with several children, make the changes, click Save and then use
the down arrow to move to the next. I have found that after completing a
family, that as many as seven Contacts have been changed to show the Names
and Home Addresses of a person several cards up causing me to have to
manually change them all. This happens to Contacts that I have not touched.

So it might appear somewhat like this:

Expected result (the Smiths are not being edited) :

John Smith 123 Elm St.
Mary Smith 123 Elm St.
George Jones 456 Oak St.
Donna Jones 456 Oak St.
Janet Jones 456 Oak St. (added child from duplicated card)
Biff Jones 456 Oak St. (added child from duplicated card)

Actual Result:

John Smith 123 Elm St.
John Smith 123 Elm St. (Mary's other info remains unchanged)
John Smith 123 Elm St. (George's other info remains unchanged)
John Smith 123 Elm St. (Donna's other info remains unchanged)
John Smith 123 Elm St. (Janet's other info remains unchanged)
John Smith 123 Elm St. (Biff's other info remains unchanged)

I thought at first that Synch Services was at fault, but it happens whether
Synch Services is on or off. The weirdest part: If Synch Services is on and
the duplicates occur, records in Address Book are not affected.

Ideas?

Bob
