Shutting off Read/Not Read?

Is there a way to completely shut off the read/not read feature in Entourage
2004, so that there is never any (xx) number after the name of Folders in
the Folder List? I've tried a variety of settings in the Preferences, but
nothing seems to stop Entourage from counting emails and placing some in
parentheses after the Folder name. Thanks for any help on this.
