I forgot to check after the rebuild .... the number of messages seems correct, but the new rebuilt Database file is only 320 MB, not 2.62 GB .... that could have something to do with all the empty folders .... don't you think?

OK ... I went over to her place and made everything even worse. Sigh!

Rebuilding didn't help.

So I created a new folder, at moved everythinbg from her inbox to the new folder - except that weird email (spam from "VIP Casino" - whoever that is) with the chinese-like subject.

So I had an inbox with just one mail in it.

But I could not delete the inbox.

Entourage crashed perhaps 50 times while I tried different things.

At one point I managed to "grab" the file and drag it to a freshlu called folder that i names GETRIDOFTHIS, but then Entourage in a dialog box told me, that I hadn't sufficient memory for that (there is 1.5 G memory) ... and as I clicked on OK, it crashed again.

I also managed to keep Entourage open long enough to "select all" in the inbox (all being that one mail) and tried to delete, but I again was told there was not enough memory to do that.

At another point I managed to open Entourage and ctrl-click on the mail, trying to delete and later trying to move the mail to a folder .... only getting Entourage to tell me, that "Entourage cannot open that feature. Mail error."

I'm lost.

Finally got hold of a PC guy I know, who's pretty good with Outlook.

He said, that on a PC he would rename the database, start Entourage again and it would build a brand new database - then import what I needed (address book and all the mail folders except the inbox. That would do the trick.

I did ... renamed the "Database" file to "Database-copy" and it didn't work. So I deleted the new Database file and renamed the old file back to Database.

Which brings me where I am now - every time I start Entourage, it creates a new Database file despite there is one already = the old database file has been renamed and then renamed back. Entourage doesn't care, that the old Database file is there already, It just kepps making a new one.

I gave up .... burned the database file (2.62 G) to a DVD and brought it home.

I am now sitting on a PB G4 1.67 Hi-Res with 10.4.8, 2 GB RAM and Office X 10.1.4.

I have Switched Identity to a new one and i am working on her Database file.

Here I find that the folders "Inbox, Outbox, many of the folders are empty.

When I rebuild the database (option-start Entourage) I am told there are 40.880 messages which is about the exact number I remember from when I worked on her machine this afternoon with the sama database file. So the messages appear to be there, but the folders are empty.

Can it be, that me messages are invisible?

Can it be that the missing messages for some reason has ended up in other folders?

As i have said before ... all suggestions are welcome.

Thanks in advance

Peter
