I have also experienced disappering emails when running to many
rebuilts.

I would say you go to a "good version" and archive those good folders
everything but the famous email. By archiving I mean drag and dropping
and then create a completely new db and them import those "good
folders".
Also try this in another machine, as you are doing, to make sure it is
not user related.

I forgot to check after the rebuild .... the number of messages seems
correct, but the new rebuilt Database file is only 320 MB, not 2.62 GB
.... that could have something to do with all the empty folders ....
