I've posted here before about how I keep my Entourage data (email, contacts,
calendar, tasks -- in other words, the entire Main User Identity)
synchronized between my desktop and laptop Macs. I (RELIGIOUSLY) use only
one installation of all Office applications, leave Office Notifications
turned off, and run Synchronize! Pro X when I'm about to change Macs, which
figures out which copy of the Main User Identity is newer and makes certain
that copy is on both Macs.

Now, I've purchased Missing Sync for Windows Mobile. I used a test version
for a week or so with my Cingular 8125 Win Mobile 5 Pocket PC phone, and for
the most part things went well, although some of my contacts were
duplicated. I don't know whether Sync Services, the Missing Sync, or
ActiveSync (I also synchronized the 8125 to Outlook in my Boot Camp
partition on my MacBook Pro) produced the duplicates.

I misunderstood a MAJOR element of how Sync Services works; apparently it's
a faceless background task which trickles information from client
applications; e.g., Apple's Address Book, Entourage (Address Book, Calendar,
Tasks, and Notes), and some other apps, as well as other clients on other
hardware such as mobile phones into a "Truth" database (which I assume
resides somewhere on my computer). So, if I allow "dot-mac" synchronization
of all of this, it seems that Entourage data fed to the "Truth" database
will be writing information into Entourage's "Database" file on my laptop
even if Entourage is not running on the laptop. Is that correct?

Or (and I HOPE this is the case), if I set dot-mac preferences so that
synchronization occurs only manually and ONLY includes non-Entourage,
non-iCal, and non-Apple Address Book items, will Sync Services not push data
from those applications to dot-mac, thereby leaving corresponding copies of
the data unchanged on my other Mac? If that's what happens, will Sync
Services continue to update the Apple Address Book and the iCal's
"Entourage" calendar locally on both machines WHILE Entourage is running? Is
it possible that some "housekeeping" queries of the Entourage Database file
by Sync Services will occur that will reset the modification date/time flag
on my Entourage Database even if I take these precautions?

Finally, is there some way for a user to see what Sync Services is doing?
