I'm running Windows XP through Boot Camp (1.2 installed) on my
first-generation MacBook Pro (2 Mbytes RAM, OSX 10.4.9). Sometime about two
months ago, Windows Defender stopped checking for updates. I've found that
it's a bigger problem (Windows Update cannot check for updates). I've
established an email support incident with Microsoft Tech support. I sent my
original request for help using Entourage, and a support engineer was
assigned.

I try to keep all my email in one place (my Entourage database), so I don't
send or receive email in Windows. The support engineer responsible for my
incident hasn't responded to three emails I've sent from Entourage that
include the incident ID and his email address copied directly from his
original message to me or sent to him as a direct reply to his messages to
me. The only messages I've received from him are statements that I've not
yet responded to his suggestions! Indeed, this morning I retrieved my new
mail and learned that he's closing my incident because I've not communicated
with him!

Is it possible that he's not seeing my mail because somehow MS tech support
filters incoming mail and excludes messages sent from a Mac client? (I'm not
being paranoid, just wondering if their servers expect tech support emails
regarding Windows issues to originate from Windows email clients). Is it
possible there's something in the email HEADER that prevents my messages
from getting to him?

If you've read this far and the problem sounds in any way familiar, I'm
given an error code when I run Windows Update or Windows Defender update. I
THINK - but cannot be certain - that this problem began when Windows Update
automatically downloaded, but I refused to install, IE7. The only reason I
use Windows at all is because I have two pieces of Web-based vertical market
software that require Windows AND Windows IE; ironically, in each instance,
these applications are coded to work ONLY with IE (after all, say the
developers, it's the browser used by the masses; funny that both
applications break under Windows IE 7).
