You need to rebuild the database in order to recover the disk space.

After you delete the emails, even those with big attachments, you then need
to Quit Entourage, then rebuild the database in order to recover the space.

Start Entourage while holding the Option key, and then follow the directions
for the rebuild.

Better make a copy of your Entourage database first, just in case the
rebuild has a problem.

After a good rebuild, look inside your Main Identity folder.  There you will
find the new database and related files, plus the old database and old
related files.  If your rebuild has gone well, you can then trash the old
database, and also the Finder copy you made at the beginning of the process.

Since you have experienced problems with your database in the past, you
might want to keep a recent known good copy of your database in your files,
just for backup and good luck.
