We did that but without success it really is odd, I have advised her
to instal Office 2008 at the weekend hopefully this will resolve things.

Thank you for that, I had done all the things you said but I am not
sure whether the MS Database Daemon is installed in the Login items as
I am doing this remotely for my daughter in Austria who I recently
converted to Mac. I will follow up tonight, should the MS Office
Reminders app also be in the login items?

Make sure reminders is turned on. Check the Startup Items to see if the
Microsoft Database daemon is listed. You can also turn on/off under
Entourage in the Menu bar.
Have you restarted and run Repair Permissions after installing the
printer?
