Awesome.
I have a booklet from 1939 called "Noteworthy Trees of New Jersey". One of the 
trees in the booklet has a street that is diverted around it, just like in your 
pictures.

"Sidewalk" trees.....now that's an interesting term.
 
I reckon these trees in Savannah may qualify as "gutter" or "curb" trees. The 
don't stop traffic, but definitely slow it down. Especially the first which is 
right adjacent to a traffic light.
