Lee and Barry,

Thanks for the input and id. I was utterly confused. One branch was
deliberately cut, one I can see was torn (must have been wind, like
you say Lee ....and I can't wait til I can use the word 'derecho'
myself). But all those spouts growing any and everywhere were amazing.
It looked so weird standing all by itself in the meadow.

Are the epicormic sprouts considered adventitious? Trees have a lot of
tricks up their bark to keep going...
