Larry,

All of the seed I collected was from the ground and still green. Then I
picked up a few more, from the ground about a week later that were
semi-brown, off of the ground.  There were no seeds left on the tree when I
last collected them.  A few have germinated in the flower beds since, which
I will transplant, especially if none of the ones I planted germinates.
I'll keep you posted.  Thanks for the help.

George,  The Swamp White Oak is 3-5 years old. The seed needs to
mature on the tree then fall off, of picked just before it falls.
