Aleta,

Thanks for bring attention to the excellent Primal Forest site. Actually, I
think there are many on this main list, lurkers though they may be,  who share
your broad interest in trees, e.g. both the scientific and the mythical. In my
own case, I feel that I've been  shortchanging the mythical-mystical side by
concentrating so much on the mathematical/quantitative aspects of trees.

One topic that has interested me over the years is the association of
indigenous peoples to trees, especially as relates to myths of origin . The
late Dr. Michael Perlman had much to say on the subject. His "The Power of
Trees" is an almost epic work on the influence trees have exerted over the
centuries on people. If you don't have that book, I highly recommend it. It
could be another one to add to the pile. Yes, I have piles of books - mostly
unsorted.

Subject: [ENTS] The Primal Forests Social Network

I discovered this social networking site for forest and tree lovers on
the ENTS website (there is a button link at the bottom.)

It is beautifully organized and provides an opportunity for folks like
all of us posting to ENTS to do the traditional networking things:
have a home page, photo album, blog, chat, etc., with perhaps a more
personal tone about our interests and passions regarding forests,
trees, and forest ecology. It also seems to have created a niche for
those enjoying a more mythic, imaginative approach to appreciating
forests.

I wanted to mention it here because I think it will be much more
energized if more people join- these sites need a certain critical
mass to really be engaging and truly social for a wide variety of
folks. I personally would like to invite more ENTS members to check it
out and perhaps to join. I am really hoping some, like myself, who
have a strong interest in blending scientific, philosophical and
aesthetic sensibilities will consider joining the Primal Forests Ning
social network!
