Eli,

That is a good looking dogwood! Thanks for the post. I knew of one in
Knoxville, Tennessee that exceeded the power lines in height, but not
quite the apparent diameter of this tree in Atlanta. Often times, one
finds "knarly" growth form and/or some past pest scarring on older
dogwoods, this one seems to have a great form to it. It may be worth
propagating from this tree. From the pic, it appears to be in great
shape. How does the spring flowering look?

Subject: [ENTS] Re: Large Urban Trees in Atlanta- Dogwood pic's

This Cornus florida is the largest urban dogwood I've ever seen. The
first limb alone is thicker than most other dogwood trunks. It grows
next to a church parking lot in midtown Atlanta- fully open grown.

Dimensions:

CBH: 6.2'

Height: 30'

Spread: 40'

The height and spread are measurements from Trees Atlanta and likely
will be updated as part of my endeavor to update the Atlanta Champion
Tree List. I have serious doubts that this tree is 30' tall, but it's
still quite impressive.

        Eli,

When you visit the dogwood (Cornus florida ?) I would be
interested in seeing the measurements and photos of the tree. I have
not seen one that big.
