Steve,

Sounds like a great patch of wood. How large is the park? Are there enough
species to get a decent RI? Like you I found some 140'+ tulips in thick
canopy at the Airdrie Forest Preserve the other week. There may be a few
over 150'. Would they be a personal best for you? Keep up the good work
and great pics.

ENTS-

Today hiked through a park in Akron which I haven't visited in about 40
years. I didn't recall the height of the trees until today. This park has
the greatest concentration of tulip-trees in the area, making up over 75% of
the canopy in many areas. Measured individuals 140'+, using the "straight
up" method with a laser, in heavy canopy cover. I'm confident at leaf drop
I'll find 150' tulips, which would be exceptional for northern Ohio. CBH of
tulips measured to 10'11'', but larger ones obvious. Large red and black
oaks also, and a rich herbaceous cover. Ed, Randy, if you visit northern
Ohio again sometime, this would be a good place to visit--great trees and
very accessible.
