Thanks, Mike. I agree with you. My book includes some suggestion for
non-native plants that don¹t cause problems. I love Boston, but haven¹t
been there in awhile. My parents are from Boston.
I hope your sister-in-law likes the book. There are design tips and plant
suggestions that she might find useful. Rutgers U. Press will send out a
press release when the book comes out and it sounds like Ed will post it on
the listserve. So, keep reading your ENTS mail.

Carolyn,
Your new book sounds cool! Native plants are always better except in the
city where some non-native (and non-invasive) trees may be an option.
On July 4 my wife Sun and I pedaled the Emerald Necklace in Boston and
checked out the fabulous perennial gardens at the Fens and then it was on to
the famous Arnold¹s Arboretum. On the way back we took a long bike trail
(the Southwest Corridor) where we saw some cool gardens but the new Rose
Kennedy Greenway is a huge disappointment. This greenway was created after
the Big Dig was completed but there¹s too much granite and it¹s chopped up
into too many pieces while it¹s rather unfriendly to bikers and doesn¹t
connect to the SW corridor. Although I will say Boston looks like a new city
with the hideous old overpass gone yeah the Big Dig was nothing more than
a $20 billion beautification project!
As a matter of fact, aside from the Charles River bike paths, Boston is very
unfriendly to bikers. Cambridge, on the other hand, is probably the best
city in MA for bikers.
If you can convince more people to plant gardens to replace more lawns,
that¹s better for the environment too!
Let us know when your book comes out so I can order a few copies for my
sister in law who has a business installing gardens.
