I love this kind of stuff! When I was at Grand Canyon NP, we dealt with various 
kinds of satellite and airborne digital photogrammetry.  We had an ongoing fire 
that occurred about the same time as the Los Alamos Fire, and when the Dept. of 
Energy flew to Los Alamos with a camera that captured imagery in bands that 
pierced smoke, and bands that captured light as we see it, they flew over us on 
the way, calibrated their camera on our fire (the Outlet Fire, 2000).  It took 
us several days to work out the spectral signatures, etc., but we ended up with 
imagery similar to the URL images you posted below...
By the way, I drove right by one of the three columns and could see the  
others, on my way to, and returning from, Fairbanks earlier this week! Eyes are 
still a little bit gritty...
