Lee,
It's quite rare for NYC to get such strong winds - I guess they are calling them "straight-line winds", but are tornados common in the Minneapolis area? I always think of Minnesota far enough north of the "tornado belt", but I guess the southern part isn't.? And I wonder how the Evangelicals interpreted the roof blowing off? What the hell were they praying for anyway??!!? Glad nobody was hurt - hope that applies to the feathered residents as well.... The tornado wrecked the roof of a school (which may not be able to open this fall), and created a hole in the roof of the convention center (where the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America is having its convention--obviously god wanted to weigh in on the issues they were voting on at the time of the tornado). Hundreds of trees were blown down and several streets are closed. The neighborhood that was hit had a lot of green ash, so it was a good preemptive strike on the part of the tornado, to take out a bunch of ash before the emerald ash borer gets to them.
