In Boston's Arnold Arboretum there's a large Silver Maple on the left
just down main road from the visitor center. It's a classic (for the
species) merged multi-stem with massive girth. In February 2008 I
measured the height at 108.26 ft. Sometime this year a placard was
installed at the tree saying that it was measured in 2008 (presumably by
Arboretum staff) and a height of 132 ft. was recorded. I returned today
and remeasured, I came up with 108.87 ft. A bit of a discrepancy between
my measurements and the official stated height. During the measuring
session in 2/08 I came up with one 113 ft. measurement but was unable to
repeat it, the 108 ft. range came up consistently over several measurements.

If any ENTS happen to get to the Boston area please stop in and take a
shot at measuring this tree, it would be helpful to see what some of you
come up with.
Thanks,
-Andrew
