Dear ENTS, When you visit parks and forests in MA, would you please check for illegal off-highway vehicle (OHV) activity and send a note to the Friends Network? We are keeping tabs on OHV use through our ongoing survey. The data from the survey is being compiled and will be presented to the Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Environmental Police as an aid to enforcement. So far we have collected data on 90 state properties. The survey is below. Thanks for your help.
You can find out more about the Friends Network and our efforts to curb illegal OHV activity at www.networkingfriends.net. Friends Network Illegal Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Activity Survey Follow Up Surveys due 10/1. Please copy and paste the survey in a new e-mail message. Include pictures of illegal OHV activity or damage if possible. All survey respondents personal information is kept confidential. 1) List the forest, parks or trails you visit. 2) For each place you list, state whether or not illegal OHV activity is happening there and, if it is, to what degree. (Please note: It is as important for us to know where illegal OHV activity is not happening as where it is.) 3) Did you respond to the March 2009 survey? If yes, has illegal OHV use gotten better, worse or stayed the same since March 2009? 4) Add any comments that are important to the particular situation. 5) Answer the questions below that apply: Have you ever contacted anyone about illegal OHV use in a state forest or park? How? What is the name and the agency of the person you contacted? What was the response? Where do illegal OHV riders enter the forest or park (please be as specific as possible)? Can you name a public road regularly crossed or used by illegal OHV riders to enter the property? Are signs posted stating that OHV use is illegal? Are state property boundaries clearly marked to prevent unintentional trespass? What, if any, damage has occurred to wildlife or to the environment? What is the impact on visitors and recreational users? Have you ever felt threatened or endangered by an OHV? Have you heard of anyone who was threatened or harmed in an OHV incident? Do you have suggestions on how enforcement officials might best stop illegal OHV activity in a particular place? Thank you!
